MY CLASSES AT THE LEARNING EXCHANGE:

I have been teaching a variety of classes, open to the public, at the Learning Exchange in Sacramento for close to 30 years.  I find that number hard to believe myself!--but the Weight Management class and the Stress Class started in 1984 and have continued throughout each year since then.  I've added other classes along the way.  It adds up to thousands of people!

I love teaching classes because in small groups there is plenty of time for discussion.   I continually hear about the real problems that many, many people describe and challenge me to help them solve.  And they want answers!   Explanations that make sense!  Ideas for what they can do now!  That's why they are there.

Facing a combination of open-mindedness and healthy skepticism from class members is high motivation for me to stay informed on the latest practices in helping people change for the better.  And above all it has required me to stay focused on results.  On what works.

But even though I pack the information in, the class atmosphere is light-hearted, and your comfort is the most important goal.  Wit and humor when discussing such topics is essential and it is welcomed from everyone!

Classes are small, limited to 15 students to allow lots of time for questions and comments.  They are educational classes, not therapy.  This means we don't pry into anyone's private matters, and no one has to share any secrets.  (Although I admit right up front that counselors are very nosy people, so here I do my best to restrain my curiosity!)  The goal is to learn some new ideas about how to change.  I explain how a variety of methods work, and expect that folks will pick what is most appealing to them.

These classes and other speaking engagements are the only advertising I do, since I believe face-to-face is the most effective way to connect with people.  I get to explain my message in some detail, answer questions, and audience members get a sense of "who I am."

"SELF-HYPNOSIS FOR WEIGHT MANAGEMENT"

In the Weight class we look at all the current weight-loss practices and evaluate them from both the practical and the psychological standpoint.  Weight is a complex problem, usually linked with social and family relationships, and we will teach some simple techniques for you to identify and deal with the "key issue" that has kept you stuck in repetitive patterns.

 

"STOP SMOKING FOREVER, IN ONE SESSION—GUARANTEED"

I absolutely recommend taking the class before coming in for a private appointment to quit smoking.  In class you will learn in-depth about the psychology of  cigarette addiction.  After the class you will thoroughly understand what you need to do, and know and why and how hypnosis will work for you.  "Hypnotize me to make me stop smoking" does not work without the knowledge base.  You have to be clear on the necessary mind-set, and then on what to do and how to do it.

Also, it's much more economical for you to get the information in a group setting than privately.  Classes are small, usually 8 to 12 people, relaxed and informal, and you can ask all the questions you want.

If you are just looking into the options for quitting, this class will explain the psychological addiction and how to deal with it effectively.  If you have decided to quit, you will quit only when you can do so without discomfort.  You, your family, and friends will be very glad you did!  (Read my Smoking articles on the Links bar to the left.)  I can't guarantee what you will do, but I guarantee what I will do.  My guarantee is that if you smoke after completing this class and you need some help, you can come in to my office for up to two individual sessions at the regular office fee ($90), and from then on I will counsel you free, for as many sessions as it takes, until you are a confirmed nonsmoker.  In other words, I will never give up on you.  (My record so far is someone used 2 paid + 3 free = 5 sessions before they quit.)

After quitting everyone always says they wish they had done it sooner.  The cigarettes you smoke between right now and when you quit don't add anything to your quality of life.

Sleep problems are very common.  We cover the latest sleep research information and help you pinpoint the cause and best solutions.  Many attendees have reported sleeping better after taking this class.
